eBay fees 2026: what sellers actually pay

eBay’s final value fee is the most complicated of the six platforms — it changes by category, drops sharply on the part of a sale above $7,500, and adds a small per-order fee that most summaries forget. Here is the whole structure, flat.

The 2026 final value fee table

Rates below are for sellers without an eBay Store subscription (Store subscribers pay less — a Basic Store brings most categories to about 12.7%). The percentage applies to the total amount of the sale: item price + shipping you charge + any sales tax eBay collects.

CategoryFinal value feePer-order fee
Most categories13.6%$0.30 (orders $10 or less) · $0.40 (over $10)
Books, DVDs & movies, music15.3%$0.30 / $0.40 as above

Separately, optional promoted-listing ads, listing upgrades, and international fees can add to the above. Insertion fees are free for the first 250 listings per month for most sellers.

The $7,500 rule

On a single item, the portion of the sale above $7,500 is charged at just 2.35% instead of your category rate. On a $10,000 sale in a most-categories listing, that’s 13.6% × $7,500 ($1,020.00) + 2.35% × $2,500 ($58.75) = $1,078.75, plus the $0.40 per-order fee. It matters enormously for high-value items — and a spreadsheet that applies a flat 13.6% to the whole amount overstates your fees by hundreds of dollars.

Worked examples

A $50 sale — most categories

Item + shipping charged$50.00
Final value fee (13.6%)−$6.80
Per-order fee−$0.40
You receive$42.80

A $200 sale — most categories

Item + shipping charged$200.00
Final value fee (13.6%)−$27.20
Per-order fee−$0.40
You receive$172.40

Examples assume no sales tax on the order (the fee is also charged on tax when eBay collects it) and are before your item cost and any shipping you pay out.

Why this matters for your books

eBay is where a lazy fee table does the most damage: one seller can owe 6.7% on a guitar and 15.3% on a record in the same week. The Sold Ledger’s Settings tab carries eBay’s rates by category, with the $7,500 tier built into the formula — pick the category when you enter the item and the fee is right every time. The same table ships in the file, stamped with its verification date.
