Etsy fees 2026: the 6.5% headline is only the start

Etsy doesn’t take one fee from a sale — it takes a stack of small ones, each figured on a slightly different amount. For a US seller the stack is: a $0.20 listing fee, a 6.5% transaction fee, and payment processing at 3% + $0.25. Together they come to roughly a tenth of what the buyer pays on a typical order — and an order that arrived through an Etsy Offsite Ad pays another 12–15% on top of that.

The 2026 fee structure (US sellers)

FeeAmountWho pays it
Listing fee$0.20 per listingSeller — charged when you list; listings run 4 months, and each extra unit sold on a multi-quantity listing is charged again
Transaction fee6.5% of item price + shipping charged + gift wrapSeller — for US sellers, not charged on sales tax
Payment processing (Etsy Payments)3% + $0.25 per order, on the order totalSeller
Regulatory operating feeNone for US sellersCharged only in nine other countries (0.05%–1.97%)
Offsite Ads fee15%, or 12% for shops over $10,000 a year — capped at $100 per orderSeller — only on orders attributed to an Etsy ad

Two traps hide in this table. The transaction fee is charged on the shipping you charge the buyer, so “free shipping” doesn’t dodge it — the money just moves into the price. And the Offsite Ads fee is real money (15% under the $10,000 line, where you can opt out; 12% above it, where you can’t) — but it lands only on ad-attributed orders, so any tool that folds it into every Etsy sale overstates your fees on all the others.

Worked examples

A $50 sale, free shipping

Sale price$50.00
Listing fee−$0.20
Transaction fee (6.5%)−$3.25
Processing (3% + $0.25)−$1.75
You receive$44.80

A $200 sale, $12 shipping charged

Sale price$200.00
Shipping charged to buyer$12.00
Listing fee−$0.20
Transaction fee (6.5% of $212)−$13.78
Processing (3% of $212 + $0.25)−$6.61
Balance after fees$191.41

Before your item cost and the shipping label itself. Etsy charges processing on the order total including any sales tax it collects, so taxed orders run slightly higher than these figures. And if the $50 sale above had arrived through an Offsite Ad, the ad fee would take another $7.50 (15%) — total fees $12.70 on a $50 sale. Knowing which of your orders carry that fee is the difference between a margin you trust and one you don’t.

Why this matters for your books

A fee stack with four components on three different bases is exactly where hardcoded spreadsheets go wrong: most miss the listing fee entirely, put processing on the item price only, or bake Offsite Ads into every sale. The Sold Ledger models the full US stack — transaction, processing, listing — from editable Settings rows stamped with their verification date, and leaves the per-order ad fee to be logged on the orders that actually paid it.
